Directly across the street from The Belmont Motel is a shopping plaza and the Skowhegan Fairgrounds, home each August to the Skowhegan State Fair (the oldest in the country), featuring agricultural exhibits, pari-mutuel harness racing, carnival attractions, and professional entertainment. The Fairgrounds also host a variety of horse shows, snowmobile races and other exciting events throughout the year.

Located on one of Maine's great rivers - The Kennebec - the town of Skowhegan boasts its share of history with Benedict Arnold's march to Quebec in 1775 - Arnold Park was dedicated June 3, 2000; and Margaret Chase Smith's denunciation of McCarthyism in the U.S. Senate in the 1950's - a local museum and research library commemorates the 32-year career of Senator Smith.

Just minutes from The Belmont Motel one can go fishing, boating, swimming, whitewater rafting, golfing, shopping, as well as view wildlife, including moose and deer, and attend summer theater performances.

Spectacular foliage in Skowhegan and surrounding areas await you in the fall. And during the winter, snowmobilers can connect to local trails and the I.T.S. right from their door. Vacationers can also ski at the small, family Eaton Mountain facility just down the road or travel to the world-class mountain, Sugarloaf/USA, in less than one hour.
