Local Points of Interest

Directly across the street from The Belmont Motel is a shopping plaza and the Skowhegan Fairgrounds, home each August to the Skowhegan State Fair (the oldest in the country), featuring agricultural exhibits, pari-mutuel harness racing, carnival attractions, and professional entertainment. The Fairgrounds also host a variety of horse shows, snowmobile races and other exciting events throughout the year.

Beautiful Fall Foliage

Located on one of Maine's great rivers - The Kennebec - the town of Skowhegan boasts its share of history with Benedict Arnold's march to Quebec in 1775 - Arnold Park was dedicated June 3, 2000; and Margaret Chase Smith's denunciation of McCarthyism in the U.S. Senate in the 1950's - a local museum and research library commemorates the 32-year career of Senator Smith.
